Use your words when you are angry
Objective: By the end of the lesson the student will be able to make an appropriate statement to express anger.
Anticipatory set:
Sometimes everyone can get angry. It is OK to get angry. Everyone has good days and bad days. When you are angry you feel hot and you feel like running and hitting. This can make other people sad or scared. It is not OK to hit or to push other people. This might hurt them.
Today we are going to learn what is appropriate to say when you are angry.
Procedures: By using the Smart board and a projector the teacher will play a Mind Reading video about a child who got angry. The child wanted to get out of a classroom because he did not know how to resolve a Math problem.
Initial instruction:
The teacher will explain why the student became angry. Then the teacher will explain that the child will have two choices:
1. Become angry and hit desks
2. Raise his hand and ask for help from his teacher
The teacher will explain that using nice words is the correct choice because this way no one will get hurt.
Guided practice:
The teacher will explain play the video of a child who gets angry on the playground. Then the teacher will explain why the child is angry. The teacher will ask the students to come up with a few choices that the child has in that situation. The teacher will use the Smart board to write down the examples for later use.
Independent practice:
The students will be given 3 different social scenarios where the children get angry for different reasons. The students will have to write down a statement that is appropriate to use in that situation.
UDL: low functioning students will be given pictures such as: raise hand, use nice words, and wait patiently to choose for the appropriate situation.
Performance Evaluation: The students will have to make 2 appropriate statements out of 3 given opportunities.
